5 Hidden Gems in The Netherlands

There are a lot of beautiful hotels in The Netherlands. Some are lesser known and lesser talked about. We put together our own list of 5 beautiful hidden gems in The Netherlands. All guesthouses that are worth to stay at.

#1. Mondragon, Zierikzee

Located on the bank of the historic harbor in the center of the town we got the opportunity to stay in the beautiful newly restored hotel Mondragon. It honestly couldn’t be placed better in our opinion! The hotel is named after a Spanish general who governed Zierikzee more than four centuries ago we were immediately overwhelmed by its luxurious interior and elegance. An overnight stay at the Mondragon is a memory to savour. Enjoy great food, genuine friendship and good old-fashioned courtesy. That’s the spirit of Mondragon. The hotel offers some of the finest haute cuisine in Zeeland. At Restaurant Cristó, the menu is rich in local produce: fish from the North Sea and Oosterschelde in the summer, game from Schouwen-Duiveland in the winter. The cuisine is French oriented with Spanish influences. If you want to taste the best of the Zeeland culture and come back to a place that feels more like home and less like a hotel than Mondragon is your place. An absolute hidden gem in The Netherlands!

#3. Maison Haas Hustinx, Maastricht

Haas op 't Vrijthof, Maastricht, The NetherlandsHaas op 't Vrijthof, Maastricht, The Netherlands
Do not let the size fool you – good things come in small packages. In the three-story historical building, you will find luxurious suites that meet your desire for comfort & sophistication. The unique suites have a magnificent view over the charming historical square ‘het Vrijthof’. The entire guesthouse is outfitted with a combination of modern design and vintage furniture. We had a lovely stay in the superior suite. We highly recommend this spacious suite. It contains two bedrooms (maximum of 5 people), 2 bathrooms, a living room decorated with an old copper fireplace from 1920 and a kitchen connected to the cute private patio. Graceful ornaments and a hardwood floor contribute to make this suite delightfully eccentric and very special. Breakfast served into the room was fresh and delicious. The hotel location could not be better – right in the middle of downtown Maastricht.

Residenz is located right in the heart of the lively Duinoord neighbourhood of The Hague, on the almond-shaped Sweelinckplein square. The house was built in 1895 in preparation for arrival of former emigrants returning from the Indias. Throughout history the building served several purposes. Most recent it was home of the Spanish Consul-General. More than 110 years after it was built Residenz opened its doors as a wonderful and luxurious Guest House. It offers four spacious suites and two full floor apartments. All suites are stylishly and warmly decorated and the bathrooms stunning. The style could be best described as “urban chique” with a splash of theatre. A stay at Residenze just feels like staying with friends.
