There are a lot of beautiful hotels in The Netherlands. Some are lesser known and lesser talked about. We put together our own list of 5 beautiful hidden gems in The Netherlands. All guesthouses that are worth to stay at.
#1. Mondragon, Zierikzee
Located on the bank of the historic harbor in the center of the town we got the opportunity to stay in the beautiful newly restored hotel Mondragon. It honestly couldn’t be placed better in our opinion! The hotel is named after a Spanish general who governed Zierikzee more than four centuries ago we were immediately overwhelmed by its luxurious interior and elegance. An overnight stay at the Mondragon is a memory to savour. Enjoy great food, genuine friendship and good old-fashioned courtesy. That’s the spirit of Mondragon. The hotel offers some of the finest haute cuisine in Zeeland. At Restaurant Cristó, the menu is rich in local produce: fish from the North Sea and Oosterschelde in the summer, game from Schouwen-Duiveland in the winter. The cuisine is French oriented with Spanish influences. If you want to taste the best of the Zeeland culture and come back to a place that feels more like home and less like a hotel than Mondragon is your place. An absolute hidden gem in The Netherlands!
#2. The Barn, Baambrugge
The Barn is located in Baambrugge, just 20 min by car from Amsterdam. Fairytale is perhaps the best description for this special place. The great French fireplace, the nostalgic iron bath, the authentic crib… magical! An original old barn renovated with authentic building materials in order to maintain the classic details and bring together the raw beauty of the past. The light is breathtaking and the atmosphere surreal. Large candles in the fireplace, an old wing, cast iron chairs under the trees, the hot tub in the garden. The Barn is set in a rural romantic orchard surrounded by willows and lakes. The bedroom is located on the mezzanine with in the middle a grand French antique claw-foot bathtub. The large terrace doors give access to the patio which, whilst sipping your champagne, gives astonishing horizon views. The beautiful adjacent kitchen has a nostalgic authentic wood-fired pizza oven and a beautiful modern AGA oven, a combination of the charm of the past with the comfort and luxury of today.
#3. Haas op het Vrijthof, Maastricht
Do not let the size fool you – good things come in small packages. In the three-story historical building, you will find luxurious suites that meet your desire for comfort & sophistication. The unique suites have a magnificent view over the charming historical square ‘het Vrijthof’. The entire guesthouse is outfitted with a combination of modern design and vintage furniture. We had a lovely stay in the superior suite. We highly recommend this spacious suite. It contains two bedrooms (maximum of 5 people), 2 bathrooms, a living room decorated with an old copper fireplace from 1920 and a kitchen connected to the cute private patio. Graceful ornaments and a hardwood floor contribute to make this suite delightfully eccentric and very special. Breakfast served into the room was fresh and delicious. The hotel location could not be better – right in the middle of downtown Maastricht.
#4. Residenz Stadslogement, The Hague
Residenz is located right in the heart of the lively Duinoord neighbourhood of The Hague, on the almond-shaped Sweelinckplein square. The house was built in 1895 in preparation for arrival of former emigrants returning from the Indias. Throughout history the building served several purposes. Most recent it was home of the Spanish Consul-General. More than 110 years after it was built Residenz opened its doors as a wonderful and luxurious Guest House. It offers four spacious suites and two full floor apartments. All suites are stylishly and warmly decorated and the bathrooms stunning. The style could be best described as “urban chique” with a splash of theatre. A stay at Residenze just feels like staying with friends.
#5. Texel Suites
Texel is a lively West Frisian island just a heartbeat away from Amsterdam where you can enjoy the beautiful nature, charming villages and it’s authentic ambiance. The Wadden Sea and its islands have been nominated for World Heritage status because of its unique wetland ecosystem. Design Hotel Texel Suites is an amazing hotel in an historic warehouse at the harbour. Stay in one of the three luxuriously design suites with incredible views on the water, harbour and old windmill. On lazy days sit-down next to the fireplace to enjoy a well-deserved moment of peace. The atmosphere is just amazing. Breakfast is delicious en served in the apartment. There is also a restaurant, ‘t Pakhuus. This restaurant sits on the waterfront and only serves local produce.
