The Ritz Carlton – Wolfsburg

For decades Wolfsburg has been the home of Volkswagens Worldwide headquarters. More than half of the city’s population finds employment related to VW. To display the entire process necessary to be the World’s largest and leading auto producer VW decided to build Autostadt. The Ritz-Carlton is part of Autostadt.

Smart and beautiful automotive theme park Autostadt

Autostadt is located next to the VW plant which once was a site of a former fuel company. The idea itself originated from their exhibition at the Hannover 2000 World Expo. Since the opening of its main pavilion in May 2000, Autostadt developed into a very smart and beautiful automotive theme park.

There are pavilions for every brand VW operates and the design philosophy, manufacturing process and corporate business are further explained in the biggest pavilion.

Another great feature of Autostadt is that customers can collect their brand new cars here. Cars are stored in one of two 45 meter high glass silos. The silos are a real feat of engineering and are open for viewing. With a record speed of two metres per second, new vehicles are transported – in one minute and 44 seconds from the entrance of the towers to the highest parking space. This makes the fully automated high-rise parking system the fastest in the world. We have to say it is actually very impressive. You can even go for a tour inside a transparent capsule that moves all the way to the top.

The park extends its experience beyond just cars. There are several workshops, the best playgrounds for kids (our kids loved the XXL slides!) and a small beach. In summer they offer street performances on several open-air podiums.

Stunning interior

The interior of the hotel is just stunning. The use of earth tone colors in the lobby has a soothing effect on you. Designer furniture and the fireplace complement the atmosphere even stronger. Comfortable sofas and chairs in warm brown, grey, beige and sand. A curtain made from golden-yellow lit glass tubes. A marble fireplace. So nice spending a bit of time here!

Spacious and luxurious rooms

The same feel is transferred to the rooms and suites. These are spacious and have all amenities imaginable. In total it consists of 147 rooms and 23 suites, with views of either the lake with the old factory in the background or on the other side a view over Autostadt itself.

Our suite made a fantastic first impression, and it only got better from there. It felt spacious and luxurious, perfectly laid-out and beautifully designed. We had spectacular views over Autostadt, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. All amenities are available and the beds sleep so well you’ll wake up feeling so refreshed in the morning.

Indulge at the spa

After a day of visiting the VW pavilions you really need to indulge yourself into a moment of relaxation. Wellness is high on the menu at The Ritz-Carlton, headlined by the hotel’s stunning pool. The water of the swimming pool is at a constant pleasant temperature of 29 degrees. There are very few places in the world that offer such an imposing backdrop for a swim. We absolutely loved spending time here!

No need for relaxation but want to shed some extra energy instead, your option will be the gym. Well equipped with modern workout machines the panoramic window offers you a view over the docks, outside pool and the VW historic power plant.

One of the best restaurants

The Ritz-Carlton Wolfsburg holds another trophy: Aqua. This restaurant, run by chef Sven Elverfeld, has established itself as one of the very best in Germany, not to say the world.

But also restaurant Terra is absolutely amazing. It welcomes you with farm-to-table dining. The menu is determined by the season and the story of the ingredients provides the inspiration.

Summer nights are the best nights, specially when dining in the open air terrace. We were lucky enough to have great weather to eat outside. The food is of an incredible standard, we absolutely loved it!

Breakfast, served in the Aura restaurant, was all we could ask for. Pleasant seating, delicious fresh food (the Eggs Benedict was our favorite) and homemade drinks. What a lovely place to enjoy your morning coffee!

Surrounding area

The surrounding area is also rich in activities for guests to experience. Ofcourse Autostadt, which is covering more than 28 hectares. Go shopping at Designer Outlets Wolfsburg and find over 90 international top brands in an impressive architecture. Pack your golf clubs and tee off on the golf club. Or experience Science Center Phaeno, truly one of the best science museums we have visited!
